Double honor for Miceli & Sensat at the World’s Best Olive Oils (WBOO)

The 2025/26 edition of the World’s Best Olive Oils (WBOO) ranking introduces major changes at the top. Italy and Spain reaffirm their dominance: Miceli & Sensat wins both and Best Organic Olive Oil Mill, while Don Gioacchino by Azienda Agricola Sabino Leone is recognized as the most awarded EVOO of the season. Aceites Oro Bailén once again secures the title of Best Olive Oil Mill in the World.

In second place is Unico (365 points), the unique Picual by Miceli & Sensat, followed by Oro Bailén Picual (290 points), crafted in the Gálvez González family groves in Jaén.

The 2025/26 ranking includes 83 EVOOs: 34 Spanish, 31 Italian, and others from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Portugal, Croatia, Greece, Slovenia, Tunisia, Turkey, Chile and China. The only non-European EVOO among the top 41 is the Chinese Xiang Yu, a Coratina monovarietal ranked 11th with 195 points.

The world’s best organic EVOOs

In the organic category, Unico by Miceli & Sensat leads with 365 points, followed by Monini Monocultivar Coratina (285 points) and Oro Bailén Picual Bio (280 points). The TOP10 shows perfect balance between Italy and Spain, confirming their leadership in both conventional and organic production.

The world’s best olive oil mills

Aceites Oro Bailén Galgón 99 retains first place with 845 points. Miceli & Sensat follows with 730 points, and Almazaras de la Subbética ranks third with 705. Italy and Spain share all TOP10 positions, with notable names such as Sabino Leone, Oleícola Jaén, Quattrociocchi Americo, Rafael Alonso Aguilera and Tommaso Masciantonio.

The best organic olive oil mills

In the organic mills ranking, Miceli & Sensat dominates with 730 points, followed by Rafael Alonso Aguilera (520 points) and Almazaras de la Subbética (445 points). Once again, Italy and Spain occupy all top positions.

The most influential competitions

The WBOO ranking evaluates six major competitions, including EVOOLEUM Awards, Expoliva, Mario Solinas Quality Award, Premio OVIBEJA, Leone d’Oro and SOL d’Oro. EVOOLEUM remains the contest awarding the highest score.

Transparency and evaluation criteria

According to WBOO founder Heiko Schmidt, 238 EVOOs earned at least one medal during the 2025/26 season. Schmidt notes that many competitions still do not meet the transparency standards required by WBOO, and hopes more will adopt its strict criteria to ensure a reliable and authoritative global ranking.

The ongoing rivalry between Italy and Spain continues to define the highest level of excellence in the world of extra virgin olive oil.
