The 2025/26 edition of the World’s Best Olive Oils (WBOO) ranking introduces major changes at the top. Italy and Spain reaffirm their dominance: Miceli & Sensat wins both
The world’s top EVOOs
Leading the global ranking is Don Gioacchino (465 points), an exceptional Coratina monovarietal produced from 240-year-old olive trees. In second place is Unico (365 points), the unique Picual by Miceli & Sensat, followed by Oro Bailén Picual (290 points), crafted in the Gálvez González family groves in Jaén.
The TOP10 is dominated by Spanish and Italian oils: seven Spanish and three Italian. Among them are Monini Monocultivar Coratina, Oro Bailén Picual Bio, Rincón de la Subbética, O-Med Picual, Don Remigio, Parqueoliva Serie Oro and Knolive Epicure.
International presence
The 2025/26 ranking includes 83 EVOOs: 34 Spanish, 31 Italian, and others from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Portugal, Croatia, Greece, Slovenia, Tunisia, Turkey, Chile and China. The only non-European EVOO among the top 41 is the Chinese Xiang Yu, a Coratina monovarietal ranked 11th with 195 points.
The world’s best organic EVOOs
In the organic category, Unico by Miceli & Sensat leads with 365 points, followed by Monini Monocultivar Coratina (285 points) and Oro Bailén Picual Bio (280 points). The TOP10 shows perfect balance between Italy and Spain, confirming their leadership in both conventional and organic production.
The world’s best olive oil mills
Aceites Oro Bailén Galgón 99 retains first place with 845 points. Miceli & Sensat follows with 730 points, and Almazaras de la Subbética ranks third with 705. Italy and Spain share all TOP10 positions, with notable names such as Sabino Leone, Oleícola Jaén, Quattrociocchi Americo, Rafael Alonso Aguilera and Tommaso Masciantonio.
The best organic olive oil mills
In the organic mills ranking, Miceli & Sensat dominates with 730 points, followed by Rafael Alonso Aguilera (520 points) and Almazaras de la Subbética (445 points). Once again, Italy and Spain occupy all top positions.
The most influential competitions
The WBOO ranking evaluates six major competitions, including EVOOLEUM Awards, Expoliva, Mario Solinas Quality Award, Premio OVIBEJA, Leone d’Oro and SOL d’Oro. EVOOLEUM remains the contest awarding the highest score.
Transparency and evaluation criteria
According to WBOO founder Heiko Schmidt, 238 EVOOs earned at least one medal during the 2025/26 season. Schmidt notes that many competitions still do not meet the transparency standards required by WBOO, and hopes more will adopt its strict criteria to ensure a reliable and authoritative global ranking.
The ongoing rivalry between Italy and Spain continues to define the highest level of excellence in the world of extra virgin olive oil.
